April 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes
The Commander called the meeting to order, and compatriot Procter opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Each member gave the name of the Confederate ancestor they represent as an SCV member.
Commander Crandall gave the camp financial report. the Commander reported that the flag at the camo shop on Hwy. 27 has been replaced. 1st lieutenant Commander Durden suggested we start a flag replacement fund for this flag, to match what the camp paid for replacement this time. That way when it's time to replace it we can purchase a larger flag than the one we had to get this time because of cost.
We need to be thinking about a good date that works for everyone, to have a work day at the monument site before the May 9th Confederate Memorial Day event there.
At the last meeting we discussed having a living history/ recruiting booth at Mayo's Pioneer Days event, but after checking the date it falls on the same date as Fall Muster, so the camp decided not do this event.
The living history event for Tallahassee Cub Scout Den #23, will be in July, no exact date has been set yet.
The Commander passed around two samples of car tags he is working on with the sign shop man. The tags will have the Battle Flag, SCV logo and Camp 2012 information on them. Each member gave suggestions.
Camp 2012 member news: Commander Crandall and Quartermaster Warf will represent Camp 2012 volunteering to help the 8th Florida Quincy Young Guards at the Tampa Flag dedication this coming weekend. Carrie Warf will represent OCR Chapter 8.
Miss Edna Durden and Miss Carrie Warf of OCR Chapter 8, presented a very interesting program for the evening, on Women being widowed during the 1800's. Miss Carrie wore a typical black mourning dress of that period complete with veil as a demonstration. Miss Edna talked to the camp about how much it changed the rules of living and dressing of the widow during the mourning period of 21/2 years. Victorian etiquette about this matter was strict and many times very harsh on the widow's of this period of time. The camp enjoyed the program very much.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer, by compatriot Proctor.
The next Camp meeting will be May 28, 2009
