August 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes

The 1st Lt. Commander called the meeting to order, and Chaplin Taylor opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Each member gave the name of the Confederate ancestor they represent as an SCV member. The membership and financial reports were given. The camp discussed putting together a monthly monument mowing volunteer sign-up sheet. We will hopefully be able to get this volunteer list started at the next meeting. Everyone was reminded that SCV dues are due now through October 31st. The camp was made aware of a headstone dedication on September 12, 2009 in Suwannee County, near Branford. The directions are on our web site under area events. Compatriot Warf could not be at the meeting due to work, but he did phone in some ideas he wanted to be put before the camp, they are as follows:

1. Will we hand out the small flags at the parade this year as well as the coins on a necklace and how much do we intend to spend.

2. Compatriot Warf wants to set up a recruiting booth at the monument site and announce it in the local newspaper, he asks how many will be able to help at the booth and to help pay for the newspaper ad.

3. We need to start putting southern heritage articles (maybe quarterly) in the local newspaper.

4. We need to do some work on the float, tires, safety chain, lights. Compatriot Proctor advised he would check with Compatriot Whitfield about picking up the trailer.

The July Cub Scout program at Natural Bridge was well received. Compatriots Castelucci and Proctor were presented their certificates of membership at the event. Compatriot Castelucci's wife took photos and  put photos and a nice write up of the event in the local newspaper.

Compatriots Crandall, Cane and Wright represented the camp at a headstone dedication in Leon County on August 15th.

It was emphasized that we need to put our heads together and come up with a new theme for the float this year.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer by Chaplin Taylor.

The next camp meeting will be on September 24, 2009
