February 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes
The Commander called the meeting to order, and Chaplin Taylor opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Adjutant Durden gave the financial report and the membership report.
The camp discussed the success of our part in the recent "Fiddler Crab Festival" in Steinhatchee. We had a living history camp and the camp float was in the parade with our color guard. We were well received by the event organizers as well as the public.
Chaplin Taylor brought to the floor, that we needed to set a date for the upcoming Confederate Memorial Day, so folks could plan ahead to attend. After discussion a motion was made by compatriot Murrow to have this event on May 2, 2009. 1st Lieutenant Durden seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. There was a general discussion on how to perform this year's event.
There was a general discussion on up coming camp activities, several ideas about having camp family events and locations for these events was discussed .
Chaplin Taylor suggested we cut back on the business portion of our meetings in order for us to have some type of program each meeting. He will be giving a program at the meeting in March, his subject will be the burning of the New Manchester, Georgia textile mill and town by General Sherman in 1864 . Many of the mill employees were taken prisoner and shipped north. This site is close to where Chaplin Taylor grew up.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer.
The next camp meeting will be March 26
