The Official Records show that Joseph Morgan enlisted in the Confederate States Army, August 15, 1861 ( date also shown as September 28, 1861), at Fernandina (also known as Lower Spring), Florida and served as a private in Company C, 10th Florida Infantry. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant, same company and regiment, May 12, 1862, and resigned as 2nd Lieutenant September 7, 1863, ( date also shown as September 24, 1863. |

His pension claim form shows that on February 20, 1864, he was transferred to the Natural Bridge near Tallahassee, Florida. He appears on the muster roll of the 1st Florida Reserves, Company I. This unit participated in the Battle of Natural Bridge in March, 1865. The Official Records also show that one Joseph Morgan, described as a private, conscripts, Florida, Confederate States Army, was surrendered by Major General Sam Jones, Confederate States Army, at Tallahassee, Florida, May 10, 1865 and paroled at Madison, Florida, May 19, 1865. |
