July 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes
The Commander called the meeting to order, and Chaplin Taylor opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Each member gave the name of the Confederate ancestor they represent as an SCV member. Commander Crandall gave the membership and financial reports. Our two new members will be presented their membership certificates at the living history event at Natural Bridge Battlefield, July 26th.
There are only two of the Tampa battle flag ribbons left, contact the Commander if you would like one. ( see last month's minutes for a photo)
The Commander reminded the camp that membership dues are due beginning in August.
The camp discussed when officer elections should be held. A motion was made by compatriot Proctor and seconded by compatriot Murrow, to hold camp officer elections in January, every two years. The motion passed unanimously. The next election will be January 2010.
Compatriot Loyd Durden resigned as 1st Lieutenant Commander. The camp greatly appreciates all the hours of dedicated work and effort compatriot Durden has put into the office of 1st Lieutenant Commander.
A motion was made by compatriot Murrow to accept compatriot William Wright as acting 1st Lieutenant Commander, until the next election, the motion was seconded by compatriot Proctor. The motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by compatriot Proctor for compatriot Greg Warf to hold the post of 2nd lieutenant Commander, the motion was seconded by compatriot Wright. The motion passed unanimously.
The Commander passed out draft copies of a recruitment handout he is working on. The handout has a Confederate $20 bill on one side and historical information, as well as our camp contact information on the back side. We may be able to print these cheaper ourselves, than to have a company do it.
The commander advised the camp flag is at a sewing shop for repairs, it should be ready in time for the living history event the 26th.
The camp discussed the grave cleaning project, several good ideas were brought out.
The Commander reminded the camp that now is the time to be coming up with ides on decorating the float for the upcoming Forest Festival parade. Compatriot Warf pointed out that we may need to look into some new tires for the float. Compatriot Proctor also pointed out that checking or repacking the wheel bearings on the float would not be a bad idea.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer by Chaplin Taylor.
The next camp meeting will be on August 27
