June 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes

The Commander called the meeting to order, and Chaplin Taylor opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Each member gave the name of the Confederate ancestor they represent as an SCV member.

Commander Crandall gave the membership and financial reports.

The Commander opened for discussion the plan for Camp 2012 to transfer from 4th Brigade Florida Division to 3rd Brigade Florida Division, we had discussed this at last month's meeting also. A motion was made by compatriot Proctor to go ahead with the transfer procedure, it was seconded by compatriot Durden, the motion passed unanimously.

Commander Crandall appointed compatriot Steve Proctor as acting Camp Adjutant.

There are only 4 of the Tampa Flag ribbons left. These are cut from the first flag flown at the memorial site at Tampa in 2008, each comes with a note of authenticity.  (Photo) Contact Commander Crandall if you would like one.

We discussed at the last meeting the possibility of having a living history event with 4-H. 1st Lt. Commander Durden advised that the 4-H club will not have a meeting until August, but they are interested and appreciate the camp's offer.

Compatriots Murrow and Warf are working on a CSA soldier headstone dedication project in the county.

We discussed the living history event with the cub scouts next month.

In line with our discussion last meeting on the camp doing CSA soldier's grave clean up's, compatriot Wright will send out a web link with the soldier's names, unit served in and grave yard locations, by email.

The Florida Society Order of Confederate Rose are selling raffle tickets for a 42 inch flat screen TV, to help the Florida Division SCV to pay the lawyer fees for our Confederate tag project. If you would like to buy a ticket please contact Miss Edna of OCR Chapter 8, at (850) 838-2045.

It was brought to the camps attention that the flag on Hwy. 27 needs to be replaced with a flag that is not polyester as that material fades to quickly.

Camp 2012 Member News: The Perry Newspapers gave us a good spot last week by publishing a photo and article on the efforts of camp 2012 and OCR Chapter 8 in a community work project. Thanks to Greg, Aaron and Dusty Rose Warf and the ladies of Chapter 8.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer by Chaplin Taylor.

The next camp meeting will be on July 23
