May 2009 Camp Meeting Minutes

 

  The Commander called the meeting to order, and Chaplin Taylor opened with prayer. We had the pledge to the U.S. flag and the salute to the Confederate flag. Each member gave the name of the Confederate ancestor they represent as an SCV member.

  Commander Crandall gave the membership and financial reports.

   The commander advised that compatriot Warf had purchased a wall tent for camp living history events. A frame needs to be built for the tent, so we will be having a work in the future to help with this.

  The camp discussed the upcoming living history event with the cub scouts at Natural Bridge on July 26 at 2pm.

  1st Lt. Commander Durden will be looking into the possibility of the camp having a living history event with 4-H

  The commander updated the camp on the "adopt a highway" idea as a camp project.  He stopped by DOT and got all the information on this program. The commander made a motion that we take on this as a camp project, compatriot Durden seconded it and it was passed unanimously.

  The camp discussed fund raising ideas, compatriot Durden advised one of the large flags is ready for a silent auction at an upcoming meeting.

  The commander gave a report on all the events and activities the camp participated in last year.

  1st Lt. Commander Durden  encouraged the camp to really get serious about doing CSA soldier grave clean ups in our area as a camp project.

  The commander shared some new information on his genealogy research, he has discovered several new CSA ancestors.

  Camp 2012 Member News:

  Victor Crandall and Greg Warf represented Camp 2012, volunteering to help the 8th Florida Quincy Young Guards at the Tampa flag dedication on April 25. Confederate Memorial Day on May 9th went very well, with Camp 2012 members, Camp 703 members and several folks from the community attending.  Camp 2012 members along with Camp 703 attended the Lee/ Jackson banquet in Jefferson County on May 9th, Bob Beshears is commander of this camp.

  Loyd Durden represented Camp 2012 on May 16th at the grave dedication of Sgt. George Martin 1st Florida Infantry, the John Hance O'steen camo in Bell, Florida hosted this event.
